All You Need to Know About the Upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reboot
Call of Duty will be back on October 25, 2019, with a reboot of the Modern Warfare series, which is a fan favorite. Developed by Infinity Ward, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will see the return of Captain Price and take the series back to warfare set in modern times rather than historical or futuristic warfare.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have a campaign mode, unlike the last game, Black Ops 4, which did not have a campaign mode. From beta gameplay and previews, the campaign will be more emotional, intense, brutal, and matured than any other Call of Duty game. Players now have the choice of killing civilians, tactical decisions and choices are made, and character dialogue will differ depending on player choices.
The campaign will take place across various European cities as well as the Middle East. Players will control special force soldiers, police, and rebel forces in the Middle East.
The Spec Ops mode in the previous Modern Warfare games will be back. But Zombies mode won’t feature in this year’s game. Spec Ops mode will support four players. The Traditional Spec Ops co-op missions will be available for all platforms, while Survival Spec Ops mode will be exclusive to the PS4 until October 1, 2020.
This year’s multiplayer will be radically different from what we’ve been used to. Maps will be larger, doors can be breached, and there will be a hardcore ‘Realism’ mode that removes player HUD. Killstreaks are back instead of Scorestreaks used in the recent COD games. The newly introduced Ground War mode will allow over 100 players to slug it out on a large map. Gunfight is a new mode that pits two teams of two players against each other in matches that last for 40 seconds per round.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will feature more extensive weapon customization. Most guns will have about 60 attachment options, with players allowed to equip five attachments at a time.
For the first time in the COD history, crossplay will be supported for PC, Xbox One and PS4. So, you can play with your friends who have a different console or platform from yours. Crossplay is supported for all multiplayer modes except for competitive tournaments and ranked tournaments. If you wish, you can opt to only play with those who use the same control types as yours, but Activision has confirmed that gameplay will be balanced across all platforms without giving anyone an undue advantage over another.
Modern Warfare will use a new game engine that will improve the game graphics and add support for better ray-tracing, volumetric lighting, and more detailed environments.
The best news of all is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare won’t have a season pass. So, all post-launch content like maps and weapons will be released freely to everyone. This sounds good as Call of Duty DLCs could get quite expensive, even for cosmetic upgrades.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
